There are a few key differences between THC and CBD that we think are important for all of our Flyers cocktail lovers to know. Crack open your fave Flyers cocktail (we know, it’s hard to choose just one) and settle yourself in for some science (don’t worry, there won’t be a pop quiz after).
Put simply, the cannabis plant contains cannabinoids like THC and CBD. While these two come from the same plant your body receives and reacts to them quite differently.
What is THC?
THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is the ingredient that can be associated with you experiencing that high feeling (this is the stuff your Aunt Gwen warned you about). In certain doses, it can also cause you to experience negative or scary psychoactive effects such as paranoia or a feeling like you’ve lost control. Sounds pretty nasty, huh?
What is CBD?
CBD (cannabidiol) is a mighty (but drinker-friendly) ingredient in our sparkling cocktails. It collaborates with the receptors in your body’s central nervous system that then affects the release of neurotransmitters in your brain. These neurotransmitters are the chemicals responsible for relaying the messages between cells and work to manage pain, immune function, stress responses, and sleep.
What is the difference between CBD and THC?
CBD won’t get you high as it doesn’t contain the THC which can be associated with you experiencing that chaotic high feeling. CBD is non-intoxicating which means it may make you feel a comfortable buzz, but you will always feel in control.
How Does CBD Affect THC?
In small quantities (max 0.3% which is legal, meets the FDA and DEA standards of safety and is undetectable), THC plays an important role in supporting how CBD works to affect your mind and body. This is called the entourage effect. Think of it as one of CBD’s wingmen that helps it to excel in your system.
