The Standard for Lighting after Sunset

Once the sun has set, overhead lighting should be considered carefully.
While technically effective, excessive brightness has been shown to create conditions more suitable for paperwork than relaxation.
To preserve the integrity of the evening, Flyers has issued the following Standard.

Approved Sources
• Lamps operating at conversational levels
• Candles, regardless of occasion
• Light originating from neighboring windows
• Any glow that encourages staying awhile
Disallowed Sources
• Illumination commonly found in waiting rooms
• Brightness that reveals household chores
• Any switch described as “the big light”

For Experts
If the room feels noticeably better after turning a light off, the light was never needed.

Issued without urgency.
